Where: Fremantle, WA More information here Delta conferences have been held every two years since 1997 across the Southern Hemisphere in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Argentina, and Brazil. In 2019 Delta will be coming to Western Australia for the first time. Delta attracts an international audience of academics interested in mathematics and statistics education, including disciplinary specialists, education theorists, and tertiary education practitioners across the sciences and engineering. This three day international research conference focuses on the journey schools and teachers make as they reimagine and redevelop their learning spaces.
In Australia and many other countries, school design is being transformed with new flexible, innovative learning environments. Research is showing innovative learning environments are not a magic cure, but evidence is mounting that they constitute a powerful tool that – if used well – improves student educational experiences. We can now say schools (and teachers) navigate a transformative journey as they re-imagine their learning spaces. What is involved in making the journey from traditional to innovative learning environments? What is the latest research telling us about how teachers can be supported on this journey? The program will feature research presentations by graduate and early career researchers, educators and designers along with workshops, discussions and school tours. This event aims to connect research with practice and is ideal for teachers, school leaders, architects and policy makers involved in designing or refurbishing schools or developing teaching practices that use space to support innovative learning. Thursday - welcome
We are pleased to announce that the theme of this year's FYiM workshop to be held in Brisbane is
Celebrating 10 years of First Year in Maths!
Our first forum was in 2013 at The University of Melbourne. Let's look back on 10 years of talking about teaching maths and statistics at the first-year level. What is still relevant? What has changed? What new challenges lie ahead?
Here is the programme.
Details of the workshop are:
When: Thursday 6 July and Friday 7 July - 10 am to 5 pm
Where: The University of Queensland, St Lucia campus and via Zoom
Cost: FREE! Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided thanks to UQ's School of Maths and Physics. You are welcome to join us for dinner (at own cost) on Thursday night at a local/CBD restaurant.
We look forward to seeing you in sunny Brisbane!
