Macquarie University is hosting the end-of-year First Year in Maths NSW on the 16th and 17th of December, and we would love you to be there.
Both workshops are free and will take place at the main campus in Ryde, in the Numeracy Centre and the adjacent Access Grid Room. The talks will be streamed via Zoom for those who cannot make it to Sydney, a link will be sent closer to the day. The theme for FYiMaths NSW is “Online Learning & Teaching”, but if you want to talk about other things that is fine also. Indeed, as we all know, workshop themes are not intended to be strictly applied! At the conclusion of another year with COVID-19, we may have to ruminate on the pros and cons of online learning, teaching, and student support, and how to integrate the best of both worlds in an appropriate blended teaching strategy. The event details and registration information are below. Please notice that if you want to attend in person, you will have to be doubly vaccinated. We’re still organising the schedules for these days, so stay tuned for these if you register. To register, please complete the FYiMaths NSW form here: https://forms.gle/c6Xu6JmRYq5sxgiJ7 Two workshops on consecutive days at Macquarie University: First Year in Maths NSW (Thursday 16 December) and an additional forum about Maths & Stats Assessment for the 21st Century (Friday 17 December) The Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the Numeracy Centre at Macquarie University invite mathematics and statistics educators in NSW to one or both of a pair of workshops on first year tertiary education in the quantitative disciplines and the transition from secondary education. Please register if you wish to attend either or both of these, and please also indicate as part of your registration whether you wish to give a talk. We are pleased to announce that the theme of this year's FYiM workshop to be held in Brisbane is
Celebrating 10 years of First Year in Maths!
Our first forum was in 2013 at The University of Melbourne. Let's look back on 10 years of talking about teaching maths and statistics at the first-year level. What is still relevant? What has changed? What new challenges lie ahead?
Here is the programme.
Details of the workshop are:
When: Thursday 6 July and Friday 7 July - 10 am to 5 pm
Where: The University of Queensland, St Lucia campus and via Zoom
Cost: FREE! Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided thanks to UQ's School of Maths and Physics. You are welcome to join us for dinner (at own cost) on Thursday night at a local/CBD restaurant.
We look forward to seeing you in sunny Brisbane!
